Amazon launches new Echo devices for your Alexa-ed home and ears

Amazon Echo Pop.

Amazon just announced four new Echo smart living devices, with all-new form factors and generational updates who need Alexa in their lives. Here’s a quick look at what Amazon announced, along with its official prices and availability.

Amazon Echo Pop

Amazon Echo Pop.

The Amazon Echo Pop is a new front-facing directional smart speaker, which looks like an Echo Dot sliced in half. It serves as an all-in-one home audio assistant, with its full suite of Alexa features (answer questions, tell jokes, and the works), on top of playing podcasts and songs you need.

An added feature is Eero support, where the Echo Pop works as a Wi-Fi mesh extender for Eero Wi-Fi users.

Audio is served via its 1.95-inch “Lossless High Definition” speaker, and its overall dimensions are around 9–10cm at 196g, making it an ideal alternative for smaller apartments and rooms. Echo Pop has up to Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Bluetooth Low Energy, Matter compatibility, and it’s also compatible with your iOS and Android devices.

Amazon Echo Pop retails at US$39.99, while the Amazon Echo Pop with Smart Plug combo retails at US$64.98. Sadly, it doesn’t ship to Singapore yet, but we’ll wait and see if Amazon changes its mind.

Amazon Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 5 Kids

Amazon Echo Show 5 Kids.

Amazon has the third generation of its Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 5 Kids. As implied in its name, these 2023 smart display-with-speaker comes with a 5.5-inch panel rated at 960 x 480 pixels resolution, paired with one 1.7-inch driver for its audio, and topped off with a 2MP camera.

As an update to an existing product line, Echo Show 5 promises a new sleeker design, along with improved audio and doubled bass. The gadget also packs an AZ2 Neural Edge processor with a re-tooled microphone array.

The Kids variant includes one year of Amazon Kids+ (a subscription-based edutainment content portal built for 3–12 year-olds) and parental controls that extend into Alexa responses and songs.

The Amazon Echo Show 5 retails at US$89.99, while the Echo Show 5 Kids goes at US$99.99.

Amazon Echo Buds (2023 version)

Amazon Echo Buds (2023).

Did you know that Amazon also had Echo-branded true wireless earbuds since 2019? The company has now updated this lineup with a 2023 version, which (confusingly) has the same exact name: Amazon Echo Buds.

The 2023 version of Amazon Echo Buds packs 12mm drivers, up to five hours of playback and 20 hours with its charging case included, on top of Bluetooth Multipoint, tap controls, and IPX2 sweat resistance. Note that it doesn’t have noise-cancelling — for that, you need to look at its 2021 version (also called Amazon Echo Buds).

The good news is Amazon isn’t locking its buds to only one voice assistant. You can use Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple’s Siri assistants with the 2023 buds.

The Amazon Echo Buds (2023) retail at US$49.99.
