Amazon announced via a press release that it has entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire mesh router company eero.

The motive behind the acquisition is to “help customers better connect smart home devices”, which is definitely a boost for Amazon and its ecosystem of smart home devices.

Dave Limp, the SVP of Amazon Devices and Services, states that the company is “incredibly impressed” with the eero team. He also said that both companies share the same vision of providing consumers with an easy smart home experience.

Eero is one of the pioneers of consumer WiFi mesh networking solutions. Amazon is excited to learn from and work closely with the eero team to define the future of the home and bring eero systems to more customers.

Amazon now joins a growing list of major tech brands that sell routers. Apple exited the market in April 2018 when it discontinued the AirPort base station products
