Huami, a sub-brand of Xiaomi, announced the Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch at a press event in China.

The main highlight of the Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch is the real-time ECG feature. It has a custom always-on AI chip with a cardio biometrics engine for more accurate heart rate monitoring and allows real-time screening for heart abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation. Up to 60 minutes of ECG data is stored locally on the smartwatch for seven days.

Another key feature of the Amazfit Verge 2 smartwatch is its support for eSIM. This means the smartwatch is able to function as a standalone device for receiving and making calls. While it is compatible with all major telcos in China, it is not known at the moment if the global variant of the smartwatch will have eSIM support.

Other specs include a 1.39-inch AMOLED display (454 x 454 pixels), IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, a microcrystalline zirconium ceramic frame, GPS, NFC, Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage space and a 420mAh battery. The AmazFit Verge 2 is said to be able to last up to 28 hours while on a 4G connection.

The standard model is available now and priced at 999 yuan (~S$197). The ECG version is priced at 1,299 yuan (~S$256), but will only go on sale in July. There is an Avengers edition with a white color option and custom watch faces; it will launch in July at a price of 1,499 yuan (~S$295).
