In case you missed it, Apple has just announced the 2020 iPad Pro portables, with a new processor that enables them to outpace most PCs, an upgraded camera module that now includes an ultra-wide camera and LiDAR scanner, and Wi-Fi 6 support.

Here are a few more items that are not immediately apparent from the press release:

  1. After studying the iOS 13.4 GM build that Apple has just seeded to developers, 9to5Mac reports that all the new 4th-gen iPad Pro models come with 6GB RAM, regardless of storage capacity. If you remember, only the 1TB 3rd-gen iPad Pro comes with 6GB RAM (the rest have 4GB).

  2. The iOS 13.4 code also reveals that the new iPad Pros have an ultra-wideband U1 location chip that’s also found in the iPhone 11. If true, this should be for more precise AirDrop sharing with other U1-equipped Apple devices. (Update: John Gruber of Daring Fireball has confirmed that the 2020 iPad Pros don't have the UI chip.)

  3. The 4th-gen iPad Pro’s SoC isn’t the A13 — instead, it’s the A12Z Bionic. At present, it’s only known that the A12Z has 8 GPU cores (one more than the A12X in the 3rd-gen iPad Pro). The CPU remains at 8 cores but we’ll have to test it to see if it’s any faster.

  4. The new iPad Pro’s wide-angle camera can now do 4K video recording @ 24, 30, and 60fps. The new ultra-wide camera can also do 4K but at 60fps only.

  5. The new iPad Pro doesn’t come in gold.

  6. Base storage now starts at 128GB, up from the 3rd-gen's 64GB.

  7. The mind-blowing, multi-angle Magic Keyboard that’s coming in May will work with the 2018 iPad Pro (thank goodness). If you’re going to use it on the 2018 model, the biggest cosmetic difference when closed is the larger camera cutout at the back.
