Affordable premium designed smartphones? Meet the LG K-series

The new LG K-series smartphones are heavily design oriented to appeal to the young at heart.

When you need a top-notch one, you pay top dollars too. What if you could settle for some elements of the premium phone in order to lower your cost of ownership? That’s pretty much what the top Chinses brands have been focussed in their phone line-up. More often than not, you tend to sacrifice certain features, user experience and design in favour of a phone that meets the right specs off a checklist (like a fast processor, high-res screen, etc.) to bag you the new class of affordable premium phones.

Today at CES 2016, LG is launching a whole new line of phones that places emphasis on design, camera technology and user experience that’s borrowed from their premium device offerings (such as the LG G4 and G Flex 2), but without the premium price. This is the new K Series and the mega consumer electronics show In Vegas debuts two initial models, the K10 and K7.

Aimed at the young at heart, the new K-series is the first in LG’s line-up to offer a new design language that they call glossy pebble design. Using a new 2.5D Arc Glass for a smooth and seamless finish, this is further complemented by the phone’s button-free sides. Like LG’s premium devices, the K10 and K7 use rear-button placement to control the phone. The back cover also features an intricate woven pattern for optimal grip and confidence when on the move.

Camera functionality for the K10 is aided by a 13MP rear and 8MP front camera while the K7 offers a 8MP rear and 5MP front camera. Both phones will feature LG’s popular Gesture Shot and Gesture Interval Shot, enabling hassle-free selfies. Gesture Shot enables users to take photos simply by raising an open hand in front of the lens and then clenching it into a fist. Closing one’s hand twice automatically leads to the Gesture Interval Shot and will produce four consecutive photos. Not to mention, both phone are also equipped with front camera flash modules to better capture your favorite selfie moments even in the dark.

The LG K10 is a 5.3-inch HD resolution smartphone that has quad-core and octa-core processor options, up to 2GB RAM and up to 16GB of internal storage. This 8.8mm thin device has a 2,300mAh battery which is reasonable for its class. Color options include white, indigo and gold.

The K7 is a tad smaller phone with a 5-inch screen, but the resolution drops to just 854 x 480 pixels. It is equipped with a quad-core processor, up to 1.5GB of RAM and up to 16GB of internal storage. Color options include Titan, white, black and gold.
