Apple has today introduced Beats Flex, a pair of wireless earphones that you can wear around your neck like the now-discontinued BeatsX. In the process, Apple has also streamlined its earphones offerings, with the wired urBeats3 earphones also dropped from the lineup.

Only available through Apple, the new Beats Flex boasts 12 hours of battery life and has a Fast Fuel charging tech that lets you get 1.5 hours of playback with just a 10-minute charge.

The Bluetooth headphones also sport Apple’s W1 chip for quick pairing and switching between your Apple devices connected to the same iCloud account.

The Flex supports Audio Sharing, too, so you can wirelessly share audio with the earphones with another pair of Flex headphones or AirPods. The magnetic earphones will play music automatically when they’re in your ears and pause it when they’re attached around your neck.

For controls, the in-ear earphones have volume, track and call buttons on the left housing on the flexible Flex-Form cable. There’s another housing on the right of the neckband and that’s where you’ll find the power button.

Regarding sound quality, the Beats Flex uses a custom acoustic platform featuring a dual-chamber design and a proprietary layered driver. There’s also a built-in microphone with wind reduction for better call quality. The box comes with eartips in four sizes as well as a USB-C to USB-C charging cable.

The Beats Flex is priced at S$74.95, lower than both the BeatsX (S$138) and the wired urBeats3 (S$85). Shipping starts next week for the black and yellow colour options, with the blue and grey versions coming later in the ‘winter’.
