Actxa Spur implements heart rate monitoring with HR zone data

The Actxa Spur may look like a simple fitness tracker, but it definitely offers a little more than a beeping number to make you feel good about yourself. It takes regular heart rate monitoring one step further with data that allows you to know your HR zone.

The training heart rate (HR) zone is a simple formula that tells us how much effort we need to exert to maximize its intended physical effect. Knowing your age-appropriate maximum beats per minute (BPM) simply requires you to subtract your age from a maximum of 220. In turn, the number is a benchmark for personal efficiency. For example, a typical ‘fat-burning zone’ would be an exercise that put you somewhere around 50% to 75% of your personal maximum HR.

What the Actxa Spur does is that it calculates your maximum HR for you (based on age), and you can preset the wearable to track your resting HR – alternatively, you can manually trigger a reading. With these numbers, the built-in feature of the Spur can constantly track the user in six scenarios: Relax, Warm Up, Fat Burn, Cardio, Intense, and Max.

"It's great that many of us are walking 10,000 steps daily, but it's important to do it at a moderate intensity to improve our cardiovascular health," said Joel Chin, CEO of Actxa. "We also need to make sure our sessions aren't too intense on recovery days. With the Spur, you get the guidance and monitoring you wish for, to plan your training schedule, so your body gets both the workout and rest it needs for better health."

Key features aside, the sweat-resistant Actxa Spur come with other nice perks like a raise-to-wake function for its OLED touch display. Said display can be customized to show your preferred activities, too. It also offers vibrating notifications, your typical all-day tracking (such as calories, steps), and sleep quality tracking as well.

All these features can be managed and tracked via its proprietary app.

The Actxa Spur will be available from 15th June 2017 at their official website. It has an official retail price of S$99.
