Acronis has announced the release of Acronis True Image 2021 as a cyber protection solution for home users, prosumers, and small businesses around the world.

The release comes on the heels of a recent Acronis survey that found nearly half (47%) of remote workers never received clear guidance on working from home as the COVID-19 pandemic exposes gaps in traditional solutions and strategies.

With our modern reliance on everyday devices like computers, smartphones, and tablets, the data they contain has an inherent value. Cyber-criminals are constantly evolving their attacks to reach that data,  making the securing of these home machines even more important as we increasingly work from home without the benefit of a corporate firewall to hide behind.

Enhancing the 2020 version

Acronis True Image 2020 featured improved AI-based malware protection and allowed users to “replicate local backups” to cloud services so that off-site copies were always available.

In Acronis True Image 2021, key new protection features include:

  • Real-time protection: Keeps your device and backup files safe from malicious activities. It blocks even never-seen-before threats by checking every file you interact with in real-time.
  • On-demand antivirus scan: Ensures threats aren’t lurking on your computer. Gives you the freedom to choose between a quick file scan or a full system scan to check everything.
  • Web filtering: Blocks access to sites that spread malware, host phishing attacks, etc.
  • Video conference protection: Guards your data and privacy from hacker attacks when videoconferencing via Zoom, Cisco WebEx, or Microsoft teams.
  • CPU load balancing: Prevents your computer’s CPU from overloading during antivirus scans by giving priority to other applications so you’re protected and productive.
  • Protection pause: Suspends the anti-malware functions with one click when you want for as long as you want. Allows you to pause for a specific length of time or resume automatically on the next restart.

In addition to protection, backup functionality has also been improved:

  • Resumable replications: Ensures data isn’t duplicated. If the replication of a backup is interrupted, the process resumes from the point of the stoppage rather than restarting from the beginning.
  • Quick backup validation: Speeds up the standard process for validating the effectiveness of your backups by only checking the latest version.

Protection for Macs

Image courtesy of AcronisMacs aren't left behind either. Even though Big Sur is on the horizon, Macs can still be protected by Acronis True Image 2021.

According to the company, Big Sur 11.0 blocks only kernel extensions that use a specific kernel API, the  “deprecated KPI” and Acronis doesn't use them in Acronis True Image 2021 so their kernel extensions will continue working on macOS Big Sur 11.0. "We are also currently updating non-kernel drivers recommended by Apple for Big Sur – they will be provided in the product update and will become available to all customers," Acronis added.

However, Cryptomining, Web filtering and Video conference protection features are not planned to be adapted for macOS in Acronis True Image 2021.
