Acronis has announced the opening of an R&D center in Singapore. The facility is gearing up to be one of the largest software research facilities in Singapore and will eventually host around 120 to 150 engineers. The center will focus on developing optimized data transfer protocols and more efficient data storage and processing, data security and mobile data protection solutions.

The new R&D center is just the latest in a slew of R&D investments by Acronis in Singapore, with the total sum expected to exceed S$55 million over the next five years.
The center will be staffed with local engineers who will be given extensive training and mentoring. Acronis has set its sights on cultivating the future of global technological leadership, and it hopes to nurture its R&D center staff to eventually become senior engineers and managers.

Starting this year, Acronis will hire dozens of local engineers, including both experienced researchers and fresh graduates. It is also looking to form direct relationships with universities and the relevant education departments to expand the pool of available IT specialists. Furthermore, there are plans in the works to conduct joint research with government institutions like A*STAR, and other local organizations.

In three years from now, the data protection firm hopes to grow the research facility into one of the largest and most advanced in the region. It’s plans aren’t restricted to established institutions though, and it is open to collaboration with technology incubators, individual startups, innovation centers, and other players in the region’s innovation ecosystem.
