Acer's new Liquid Jade Z could be the best mid-range smartphone at MWC 2015

Acer Liquid Jade Z

At MWC 2015, Acer unveiled the Liquid Jade Z, a competitively priced mid-range phone with a 5-inch 720p IPS display, a Mediatek 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core processor paired with 1GB RAM, 4G LTE connectivity and a 13MP f/1.8 aperture rear camera with a 5MP front-facing f2.2 camera.

There's quite a prominent camera bump on the Liquid Jade Z.

Design-wise, the Liquid Jade Z has a soft look with curved edges. The phone is fairly light at just 120g and it's quite thin too at 7.9mm. The front sports a Gorilla Glass 3 panel, while the back is a textured plastic, which gives it a nice grippy feel. The phone will be available in either black or white.

The rear of the Jade Z features a fairly attractive textured pattern. This is the black model (which is really more of a grey color)

One interesting feature of the Jade Z is its 24-bit hi-res HD DTS stereo speakers. The speakers are located on the rear of the phone in a ring-like pattern. A quick demo sounded reasonably impressive, with lots of volume, but as the show floor was very noisy, we weren't able to fully test the phone's audio capabilities.

The Liquid Jade Z's stereo speakers utilize an unusual ring pattern speaker grille.

The Jade Z has 8GB of internal storage, which isn't a lot, but fortunately there's also a microSD card slot for expandable storage. Iinside the Jade Z, you'll find a 2,300mAh capacity battery.

The Liquid Jade Z will be launching later this this month with a retail price of €199 (S$302).
