Acer has just announced its super light 16-inch notebook called the Swift Edge in Singapore.
The headline figure is this: 1.17kg. This means the Swift Edge, despite its large 16-inch display, is lighter than most 13 and 14-inch notebooks. To give some context, the new MacBook Air is 1.24kg.
The 16-inch display is OLED and supports 4K resolution (3840 x 2400 pixels). Acer says it supports 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space and meets VESA's requirements for DisplayHDR True Black 500. Maximum brightness is 400 nits, which is a little dimmer than the 500 nits you see on some other notebooks.
Interestingly, despite being just 12.95mm thick, the Swift Edge has a pretty good selection of ports. You have two USB-C ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2) and another two USB-A ports (USB 3.2 Gen 1). It also has a single HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. Sadly, the USB-C ports don't support Thunderbolt 4.
Interestingly, despite its size, the Swift Edge doesn't have a number pad. (Image source: Acer)
Wireless connectivity is noteworthy too because it's one of the first notebooks to support Wi-Fi 6E, which means it can work with newer routers and mesh networking systems like the recently announced Google Nest Wifi Pro.
Under the hood, the Swift Edge is powered by AMD processors. You can get it with a Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U or the more powerful Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U. Regardless of the processor you choose, 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD will come as standard.
Availability and pricing
The Acer Swift Edge is available now with prices starting at S$2,298 for the model with the Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U. If you want the more powerful Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U, that will set you back S$2,598.
And for users who need more memory, there's also a configuration with the Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U and 32GB of LPPDDR5 memory and a 1TB SSD for S$2,798.
You can find it on the Acer online store, the Acer Flagship Store on Lazada, or the Acer Official Store on Shopee.
