Apple is rumoured to be launching its first 5G iPhone next year and it will be using the most advanced modem chip according to Nikkei Asian Review.

Sources told the publication that all three iPhone models in 2020 will be equipped with Qualcomm's X55 modem chip. The X55 is Qualcomm's first 5G modem chip that supports all major frequency bands. One source warned that there could be supply constraints due to the increase in demand for the X55 modem chip.

The sources also added that the 2020 iPhones will be powered by the 5nm A14 processor and at least two models will be using flexible OLED panels. In addition, Apple is said to be developing a new 3D-sensing rear camera for AR apps.

Other than 5G connectivity, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the new design and cameras to be the key highlights of the 2020 iPhone lineup. The 2020 iPhone is likely to sport a redesigned metal frame similar to the iPhone 4. Other rumoured specs include new display sizes, with high refresh rates, smaller notches, wider antenna lines, in-display Touch ID and Face ID.
