The latest trailer for the World War I epic 1917 looks incredible

Universal Pictures has released a trailer for its World War I epic, 1917, and it already looks like a winner.

1917 is set at the height of the First World War in northern France. Two young British soldiers – Schofield and Blake – are given the seemingly impossible mission of delivering a message capable of saving 1,600 soldiers.

They’re in a race against time, having to cross into enemy territory to deliver the message and save those men – one of whom is Blake’s own brother – from walking into a fatal trap. The movie is directed by Sam Mendes and based in part on a story told to him by his grandfather, Alfred Mendes.

The most unique bit of this film isn’t even in the trailer – the movie comprises multiple long takes and carefully choreographed moving camara shots to give the impression of one continuous take!

That trailer looks gorgeous, thanks in large part to cinematographer Roger Deakins’ work. Deakins’ filmography is made up of an extremely impressive list of gorgeous movies, such as Skyfall, Sicario and Blade Runner 2049. The movie also boasts an incredible cast, the likes of which include Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Andrew Scott, George McKay, Dean-Charles Chapman and Richard Madden.

This is a Best Picture nominee if I’ve ever seen one.
