14-inch M3 MacBook Pro to get multi-display support in future software update

It is unclear why the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro currently lacks multi-display support.

One of the new upgrades of the recently announced M3 MacBook Air is the support for up to two external displays. This feature is oddly not available on the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro even though it uses the same chip.

However, that is set to change soon as Apple confirmed with 9to5Mac that a software update will enable the multi-display support for the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro.

With the update, the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro can support two 5K displays with a resolution of up to 60Hz.  The only catch is that the lid of the machine has to be closed. Only the Pro, Max, and Ultra versions of the Apple Silicon chips support the use of the built-in display and up to two external displays.

And in case you are wondering what happens if you open the lid of an M3 MacBook Air or 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro that's already connected and driving two displays, popular tech YouTuber MKBHD can confirm that one of the external displays will turn off.
