12.9-inch iPad Pro with Mini-LED display said to be in trial production

The Apple iPad Pro (2020).

Apple could refresh the 12.9-inch iPad Pro later this year according to Korean publication The Elec.

Quoting information from sources within Apple, The Elec claims that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Mini-LED is in trial production and may launch in Q4 at the earliest. LG Display is said to be supplying the Mini-LED panels while Epistar will supply the LED chips. The LCD module will be assembled by TSMT and final assembly will be done by Foxconn.

The launch timeline for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Mini-LED has reported extensively over the past few months. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in March that Apple could launch as many as six Mini-LED products this year, one of which is the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. DigiTimes released a similar report claiming that the tablet could arrive in Q4.

Research firm GF Securities followed up with an investor note in April that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro could be delayed due to "complex panel design". The Covid-19 outbreak is cited as another major reason for the delay. Kuo backtracked on his March report and predicts an early 2021 launch for the tablet. Another tipster @L0vetodream posted two tweets earlier this month that new iPad Pros with A14X, Mini-LED and 5G will only arrive in the first half of 2021.
