Microsoft is rolling out a Windows 10 update that will allow apps and games based on its Universal Windows Platform (UWP) to uncouple their framerates from the monitor's refresh rate. UWP-based games will also now support AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync for smoother gameplay.

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 is now running on over 270 million devices, a rate that outpaces Windows 7 by 145%. In addition, the OS is getting a pretty major update this summer.

Microsoft has announced plans to create a single, unified ecosystem for both PC and Xbox One games. Moving forward, the company wants to make its Universal Windows Platform the center of its gaming strategy and release games concurrently on both PC and the Xbox.
