As we had observed in the Quake 4 performance of the Radeon HD 2400 XT and seen again with the Sapphire Radeon HD 2600 PRO 256MB OC Edition, the frame rates are lower than we had expected for a new mid-range graphics card. Again, once you factor in the higher clock rates on the Sapphire, one is left with the uneasy feeling that the GeForce 8500 GT would probably be breathing down the neck of the standard Radeon HD 2600 PRO. This dismal performance was relieved by the Sapphire's scores in Company of Heroes. Although it was at best level with the Radeon X1650 XT, at least it managed to beat the GeForce 8600 GT. Since this is a more recent game than the others tested earlier, we hope that this foreshadows the performance of the Radeon HD 2600 PRO in newer and more shader processor intensive games in the future.
