Unlike 3DMark03, 3DMark05's entire engine is slightly more scalable with system performance and not just graphics bound. As such, sub-system performance does affect its overall scoring. Here, we are able to see a slight lead taken by the reference motherboard. This advantage is more noticeable when you turn on AA and AF, but otherwise would go under the radar.
