Krator Neso 02 N2-21030 - Geared for Bass

The Verdict

The Verdict

The Krator Neso 02 N2-21030 seems to be a mixed bag when it comes to identity. With the paper wool mix cone, performance crossover and the long throw drivers, it boasts specifications from a higher tier of speakers, but it's actually pitched as an entry to mid-range desktop speaker system.

From our thorough trials, we found the speaker set had a sound signature in favor of bass. Apart from the speaker's own tuning, the MDF cabinet of the speakers detract from the overall tone somewhat. We can see that the MDF provides resilience and sturdiness to the speakers, something essential for desktop use, but it has never been known for its resonating qualities. A natural wood, especially spruce, would have offered a brighter tone to balance against its bass-heavy delivery. If such a design existed, in our opinion, it would have made the Neso N2 one of the better sounding speakers for its class and category.

Putting the what-ifs and the design considerations aside, there is no doubt that the speakers shone through certain parts of our tests and trials. Being more attuned to deliver bass heavy notes, the Neso N2 is perfect for house, RnB and even hard rock genres of music while still being versatile enough to suit the needs of gamers and movie aficionados effectively.

Test Type Score

Movies (DVD) Testing  8.0
Game Testing  7.5
Overall Audio Performance  8.0

With responsive and well placed volume, bass and treble controls, it is possible for almost every user to find a sound palate to their liking quickly and with minimal fuss. The Neso N2 impresses us with its simplicity along with ease of use.

Priced at US$110 though, these speakers from Krator are priced within reach of most folks and is competitive across the range of entry to mid-range 2.1-speaker systems. The Neso N2 however, will not appeal to everybody. It makes no pretensions to having a neutral sound, leaning heavily in favor of bass which colored its performance throughout our testing, while the design and look also may not be everybody's cup of tea. But if you take a liking to the character of these speakers, the Krator Neso 02 N2-21030 delivers decently for its asking price.
