Overclocking

Given its passive cooler, we weren't expecting too much from this Gigabyte card and just as well, it performed like we thought. The core managed only a small overclock to 850MHz while the GDDR3 memory also faltered at 1760MHz DDR. Compared to the GDDR4 versions and their faster clocks, the Gigabyte's overclock is very modest. However, it was marginally faster on paper than the XpertVision, though the scores in 3DMark06 don't really reflect that. The overclocking also enabled the Gigabyte to edge past the GeForce 8600 GT. However we suggest skipping overclocking to prolong the lifespan of this passively cooled card that already operates at very warm temperatures by default.
