Flame Freezing the Intel X58 - DFI LANParty UT X58-T3eH8

Temperature & Power Consumption

Temperature

Even without mounting the Flame-Freezer heatsink, the temperature on the motherboard heatsink for the DFI was one of the lowest we tested for an Intel X58 board, tying with the Gigabyte at 45 degrees Celsius. Looking at the huge and heavy chunk of heat-pipe based heatsinks onboard, this was probably a deserved win for the DFI.

Power Consumption

Unlike the other brands here which had their own proprietary technologies like Green Power and Dynamic Energy Saver to improve the power efficiency of their boards, there was nothing specific on the DFI besides its eight-phase digital PWM for CPU voltage regulation. At idle, it did perform quite well, doing on par with the MSI Eclipse. This was reversed when the system was running at its peak, with the DFI recording the highest power draw tested among the four boards. Clearly this is an area where DFI could do with some tweaking.
