Performance Benchmarking

Billed as an All-in-One desktop, the Dell Vostro 320 packs in an Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale processor that's clocked at 2.80GHz. Also, the unit comes packed with 2GB DDR2 RAM and a puny 160GB HDD. That's not a lot of space for sure, but it's designed for the regular office users and should be sufficient for daily work use.

The Vostro lacks a discrete graphics solution, relying on Intel's GMA X4500 via the Intel G41 Express chipset on the motherboard. If you intend to get the machine for gaming purposes, we suggest that you don't, unless you are only interested in casual or web-based games. Playing High Definition video clips however, was not a problem for this AIO machine.

In our usual benchmark testing, we decided to pit the unit against the slightly higher specced Sony VAIO VGC-LV17G AIO and a lower-end Intel Atom based ASUS Eee Top ET1602 AIO. As you can see from our table above, the Sony AIO checks out higher with a better, faster processor and more storage space. The ASUS machine may be of the lower end, but it is after all intended to be affordable.

Going by an overall comparison, you'll note that the Dell Vostro 320 does pretty well, easily beating the ASUS Eee Top and drawing with the Sony VAIO. This bodes well for the machine, so let's take a closer look at the breakdown of the scores for Vantage. The unit scores pretty good for the Communications and Productivity tests, which indicates that this machine will do well for its target audience of basic office and home users. Lastly, we've also added the scores on PCMark05 at the bottom for reference.
