Temperature Testing

We expected higher temperatures from a passively cooled card as a mid-range product like the Radeon X1600 XT should produce a fair bit of heat. Still, we were slightly taken aback by the consistently high temperatures that we recorded on the EAX1600XT Silent. With temperatures ranging from 70 to 80 degrees Celsius, it was predictably very much warmer than the reference card. Compared to the Gigabyte Radeon X1600 XT, which is also passively cooled, the ASUS generally fared worse, but that's because Gigabyte's design had a fresh air intake vent for better heat dissipation.
