Small on the Insides

Upon exposing the small innards of the Acer Aspire X3600, you'll find to no one's surprise that it's tightly packed with nary a space for upgrade. Originally, we had the intention to juice up the graphics capability of the unit but found that it was impossible to do so, as you'll see in the next few pictures.

Removing the side panel revealed a tightly packed chassis that was surprisingly easy to disassemble.

Likewise, the front panel was also easy to remove and you'll need to do so if removing the HDD and optical drive is part of your master plan to reveal the insides.

There we go. Removing the drive cage was as easy as pulling up on the strap seen earlier on our previous photo.

Seen here is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400XT on a Type II MXM module. We had originally hoped to replace the internal graphics subsystem with a more powerful graphics unit, but after seeing an MXM module, we guess not (as we didn't have any spare modules lying around). Oh well.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 processor of the X3600 is found under this heatsink.

A spare Mini-PCI slot awaits those who are willing to delve deep inside the machine - it's probably used for further optional configuration needs. Do note that opening the machine in this manner voids the warranty, so caution is advised.
