Samsung Pushes Envelope for Higher Quality Content with Viki

Samsung announced that it will be providing more high quality content for its Smart TV consumers with Viki.

First mentioned at the Samsung SEA, Oceania and Taiwan Forum 2012 in Bangkok which happened last week, Viki is an international video site recognized for aggregating TV programs and movies subtitled in more than 150 languages by a community of avid fans.

Consumers will now be able to watch TV shows, movies, entertainment news, and more, on the Smart TV platform. With Viki Premiere for Samsung, Smart TV consumers will get to enjoy free Korean dramas, Japanese anime, etc, all translated into the language of choice.

The Viki Premiere App will be available for download free via Samsung Apps on Smart TV from March across SEA.

SINGAPORE – Samsung Electronics announced at the Samsung South East Asia, Oceania and Taiwan Forum 2012 in Bangkok, that it will be providing more high quality content for its Smart TV consumers with Viki an international video site recognized for aggregating some of the world’s best TV programs and movies, subtitled in more than 150 languages by a community of avid fans.

Previously available on Samsung Apps for mobile devices, this new partnership with Viki will allow consumers to watch TV shows, movies and entertainment news from around the world and subtitled in multiple languages on the Smart TV platform. With Viki Premiere for Samsung, Smart TV consumers will now be able to access the world’s hottest Korean dramas, Japanese anime, award-winning independent films and more, all free and translated into the language of choice.

With over 1 billion streams and 200 million words subtitled in over 150 languages, ViKi has the most translated global video content available. To enable all of this, translators subtitle shows into their native languages under a Creative Commons license agreement, via Viki's integrated platform. Viki is also the content partner for the KPop Service App, which is a collaboration between Samsung and major Korean record labels. It brings together latest news and information of popular Korean music artistes – including pictures, videos, and music and concert clips – creating a unique and integrated user experience centered on KPop. The KPop Service App is exclusively available on Samsung Apps.

The new partnership is in line with Samsung’s content strategy and as the Smart TV platform of choice, Samsung provides consumers access to the widest variety of premium content available, with over 1,500 apps offered worldwide. The Viki Premiere App will be available for download free via Samsung Apps on Smart TV from March across Southeast Asia.
