JVC Releases a Pair of Rugged Camcorders at CES 2014

The JVC GZ-R10 rugged camcorder.

While we didn't get a GC-PX100 successor this year from JVC at CES, it did announce two rugged Everio camcorders, the GZ-R70 and GZ-R10. Both cameras feature JVC’s Quad Proof technologies that were first seen in the company’s Adixxion action cameras. Some numbers? They’re waterproof up to 16.4 feet, shockproof to 4.9 feet, and freezeproof.

As the model name implies, the GZ-R70 is the higher-end model of the two. It has a 2.5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, a 40x zoom lens, a 3-inch display, records 1080p video, comes with 32GB of internal storage, and an SD card slot.

The GZ-R10 is very similar to the GZ-R70, both looks and specs-wise, like the 4.5-hour battery life. But the former lacks a built-in LED light, and has smaller amount of internal memory.

The GZ-R70 comes in black, is priced at US$500, and will start selling in the U.S. in April. The GZ-R10 comes in black, blue, and red, is priced at US$400, and will start selling in the U.S. in March.
