Entertainment Apps Overtake Multiplayer Gaming on Xbox Live

The Xbox 360's dashboard underwent a full overhaul late last year, and brought about with it the concept of "apps". The update made it easier than ever to enjoy watching TV, movies and music on the Xbox 360. In fact, so successful was this overhaul that users are now spending more time on Xbox Live and that most of this time was actually spent using entertainment apps rather than online gaming.

Along with launching new voice-controlled TV apps for Comcast and HBO Go today, Microsoft has also shared some rather interesting stats for its new entertainment apps on Xbox 360. Xbox Live Gold members in the US are now spending an average of 84 hours per month on Xbox Live, with entertainment app usage more than doubled year on year. Globally, this has led to a 30 percent increase in the total hours spent on Xbox Live around the world.

Pity then the video streaming services on the Xbox such as Netflix and the recently added HBO Go are not available in Singapore.
