Call it retro or looking to the past for inspiration, but Blackberry's new CEO John Chen has just said that going forwards, the company's future products will "predominantly" have physical keyboards.
According to Bloomberg, Chen said "I personally love the keyboards, so you will look to Blackberry going forward to do keyboards — I wouldn't use the word exclusively, but predominantly."
Such a direction would mark a return to Blackberry's roots, considering it was exactly such devices that allowed Blackberry to make its name. However, with advanced touchscreen technology and very excellent software keyboards already in existence, such a move is risky and could restrict Blackberry's already limited appeal. Nevertheless, it could create a niche market for the ailing company and help it transition through this difficult period as it attempts to realign and reinvent itself.
