BDA Approves 4K Blu-ray Discs, Standard to Finalize by End of This Year
Following CES 2014 where 4K UHD TVs took center stage, the Blu-ray Association (BDA) announced its intention to release 4K Blu-ray discs. This will cater to those who are unable to stream 4K UHD media, since streaming is dependent on a number of factors, including connection speeds, bandwidth, and compression bit-rates. You won't encounter these issues with Blu-rays, as they aren't reliant on internet connections.
Victor Matsuda, chairman of BDA Global Promotions Committee, has disclosed that 4K Blu-rays should be a reality by end of this year. He said that the board of BDA has approved extending Blu-ray to include 4K, and is now exploring the best possible technical blueprint for 4K media.
We've seen Blu-ray propel the HDTV market ahead. Hopefully, 4K Blu-ray might just do the same for UHD panels going forward.
