Microsoft has rebranded Windows Defender as Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) for Macs. The new antivirus and cybersecurity application will incorporate next generation protection against viruses and other malware.

According to the Redmond company, the new built-in capability of Microsoft Defender ATP will make use of risk-based approach to guard against any cybersecurity breaches. The user interface on macOS clients is similar to what customers on Windows 10 devices have encountered. The new software has to be downloaded from Microsoft as it isn’t available on the App Store. It’s supported on devices running macOS Mojave, macOS High Sierra, or macOS Sierra.
The preview program for Microsoft Defender ATP business users can be accessed here. There isn’t any mention of when end users of macOS computers are able to download the new security application for their personal usage.
