NVIDIA's Project DIGITS brings personal AI supercomputing to the desktop

NVIDIA has introduced Project DIGITS at CES 2025, a new personal AI supercomputer designed to bring the power of large-scale AI computing directly to the desks of developers, researchers, and students around the world. Powered by the NVIDIA’s Grace Blackwell platform, the system offers a level of AI performance that was previously reserved for high-end data centres, but now in a compact, desktop-ready package.
At the core of Project DIGITS is the newly launched NVIDIA GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip. This system-on-chip (SoC) combines the processing power of a next-gen NVIDIA Blackwell GPU with an efficient Grace CPU, making it capable of delivering up to one petaflop of AI performance at FP4 precision. This makes it suitable for prototyping, fine-tuning, and running complex AI models, including large language models with up to 200 billion parameters.
What sets Project DIGITS apart is its energy efficiency. Despite its powerful capabilities, it draws power from a standard electrical outlet, a feat made possible by the collaboration between NVIDIA and MediaTek, which contributed to the design of the GB10 Superchip. The result is a highly efficient and high-performance AI machine that can operate within the confines of a typical desktop setup.
However, Project DIGITS isn’t just about raw power. It also comes equipped with 128GB of unified, coherent memory and up to 4TB of NVMe storage to give developers ample resources to work with. The system is designed for seamless operation, allowing users to develop and run AI models on their own system before deploying them on cloud or data centre infrastructure. In addition, users can connect multiple Project DIGITS units, linking them via NVIDIA’s ConnectX networking to expand their computing capabilities and tackle even larger models, with up to 405 billion parameters.
This shift towards more accessible AI infrastructure is part of NVIDIA’s broader vision to democratise AI research. NVIDIA’s CEO and founder, Jensen Huang, described Project DIGITS during his CES keynote as a tool that empowers individuals to shape the future of AI. By putting a supercomputer on the desk of every AI researcher, data scientist, and student, NVIDIA is not only lowering the barriers to entry for AI development, but also enabling the rapid advancement of AI technologies across industries.
