Apple's upcoming design refresh for the Mac mini could be the biggest yet in more than a decade.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims the upcoming Mac mini will be Apple's smallest desktop computer yet. The design team is reportedly calling the new Mac mini "an iPad Pro in a small box".

According to Gurman, the new Mac mini will be around the size of the Apple TV, but perhaps slightly taller. This will be the Mac mini's first major redesign since 2010. He adds that the Mac mini will continue to have an aluminium chassis.

Apple is reportedly testing Mac mini models with at least three USB-C ports and a dedicated area for a power cable and HDMI port.

Like its predecessor, the new Mac mini likely be available in two versions: one with the M4 chip and another with the M4 Pro chip. The base model is likely to be available at launch while the M4 Pro model will ship later in October.

Besides updating the Mac mini, Apple is expected to refresh the MacBook Pro and iMac with its new M4 chip later this year ahead of the holiday season.
