Toshiba, in collaboration with partner SanDisk, have announced that they will be beginning production of their new 15nm NAND flash at the end of April. Production will be ramped up going forwards and the new manufacturing process will replace the older 19nm process.
SVP of Memory Technology, SanDisk, Dr. Siva Sivaram said: "We are thrilled to continue our technology leadership with the industry's most advanced flash memory process node, enabling us to deliver the world's smallest and most cost effective 128Gb chips. We are delighted that these new chips will allow us to further differentiate and expand our portfolio of NAND flash solutions."
The new chips will boast of the same write speed as its predecessor but will have increased data transfer rates of up to 533MB/s by employing a high speed interface.
The new manufacturing process will be applied to two bits-per-cell NAND flash for the time being with plans for three bits-per-cell NAND flash to be produced using the same process later this year.
