Synology has been on a roll with a slew of new products recently. Now they're launching two new four-bay NASs for home and SOHO use, the DS 423 and DS 423+.
The DS 423+ looks very much like a regular NAS. Image source: Synology.
Both support up to 72TB of storage (4 x 18TB), have 2GB of RAM (the DS 423+ can be expaned to 6GB), and run on Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system.
Both devices deliver file management and sharing with Synology Drive, giving cross-platform file access. They also offer site-to-site file syncing to mirror content for teams and businesses working remotely and across multiple locations.
However, there are subtle differences like the DS423+ being powered by a Quad-core Intel Celeron J4125 compared to the Quad-core ARM v8 of the DS 423. The DS423+ also comes with two M.2 NVMe slots, which can be used to either enable fast flash caching or create SSD storage volumes without needing to use standard drive bays.
This allows users to deploy flash as a high-performance cache for their working data set while using lower-cost HDDs for less frequently accessed data.
Maximum read speeds of 226.6 MB/s and write speeds of 224 MB/s of the DS423+ are also possible. It also boasts 21% faster photo indexing over its predecessor amongst other performance improvements. The DS 423 has read and write speeds of 223.9 MB/s and 213.5 MB/s respectively.
Pricing and availability
The DS 243 and DS 423+ are available from all Synology partners and resellers now for S$599 and S$799 respectively.
