With this in mind, Seagate has just announced that it has acquired Xyratex for US$374 million. Xyratex is a company that makes hard disk drive testing equipment. According to Seagate, they said that the deal will strengthen its “vertically integrated supply and manufacturing chain for disk drives and provide uninterrupted access to important capital equipment.”
That aside, Xyratex also makes data storage systems and high-performance computing arrays, and the acquisition will only serve to bolster Seagate's storage solutions portfolio.
