As 3D VR cameras, action cams, drones and other high-resolution mobile shooting devices become more popular among consumers, there is a need to keep up with these devices and Samsung has the perfect solution - the JEDEC Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 1.0 Card Extension Standard.

UFS storage might sound familiar to you as several high-end phones use UFS for their internal memory. However, this is the first time it will also be be featured as a removable storage option.

Available in 32, 64, 128 and 256GB storage capacity options, the UFS cards delivers more than five times faster sequential read performance compared to a standard microSD. For comparison's sake, a 5GB Full-HD movie can be read by the UFS card in about 10 seconds while a standard UHS-1 microSD card will take over 50 seconds.

What all these performance enhancements mean is faster multimedia data downloading, shorter photo thumbnail loading time and buffer clearing time in burst shooting mode. At the moment, there are no devices in the market that support the UFS cards as removable storage. Pricing and availability are not known at time of publication.
