According to numerous reports, Apple has finally enabled TRIM support for third-party SSDs in the latest version of OS X Yosemite 10.10.4.

Before this, TRIM support was enabled only for Apple's OEM SSDs.

TRIM helps SSDs by telling them which areas of the drives are unused and can be erased and written with new data. It's not a requirement, but it could help improve performance, especially when the drive has been in used for a long time or has been filled with lots of data.

To enable TRIM, open the Terminal app and enter "sudo trimforce enable". A warning message will appear before asking if you are sure you want to proceed.

If you want to give this a go, our recommendation is to backup your system before doing so. As for now, we haven't heard of any reports from any user that TRIM has messed up their system.
