The COVID-19 pandemic is giving IT departments all over Singapore a run for their money. Thanks to the “circuit breaker” measures, anyone who can work from home is working from home, and this historic remote-work movement is putting unprecedented strain on IT resources.
Large organisations and MNCs with extensive IT infrastructure might be able to cope without so much as a hiccup, but small and medium businesses without a wealth of IT resources to draw on are not as lucky. They’re facing a whole gamut of IT challenges from communications, security, data storage and access, and more.
On the data front, at least, they might be able to find a lifeline in Hitachi Vantara’s new E990 Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) – the company’s first VSP designed specifically for mid-sized businesses.
Hitachi Vantara is making grand promises with the E990, including a 100-percent data availability and up to 90 percent reduction in manual storage provisioning tasks. The company also guarantees that it can help you free up 75 percent of your storage thanks to its data de-duplication and compression.
Data geeks will be pleased to know that the E990 utilises all-flash NVMe to deliver up to 5.8 million input/output operations per second (IOPS) and up to 16.6 petabytes of effective capacity. The cache architecture claims to permit read response times as low as 64 microseconds.
Performance is just one part of the equation. What about cost?
Hitachi Vantara also debuted a new programme called EverFlex, which offers a range of paying and leasing options. Companies can pay upfront, pay monthly, pay only for what you use like cloud services, and pay for add-ons like on-site management. This has the potential to dramatically lower the cost of acquisition for cash-strapped businesses.
