Samsung has announced the launch of a new range of SmartThings Sensors, designed to give you even more information and control over your smart home at more affordable price points.
The entire SmartThings lineup now includes 153 devices, ranging from door bells to light bulbs and smoke sensors. Each device can be monitored and controlled from the SmartThings app on your iOS or Android smartphone.
Back in November 2017, Samsung has previously launched a slew of SmartThings sensors as part of an expanded smart home networking ecosystem when they launched the Connect Home mesh networking system in Singapore.
The new SmartThings sensors this year have improved connectivity that use Zigbee 3.0 instead of Zigbee HA 1.2. The battery life has also been enhanced, allowing all sensors to last up to a year now. Individually, each of the SmartThings sensors has been enhanced and all of them have revised price points (S$38 or less) to make them far more affordable than last year's debut (which was typically S$68 or higher).
Here's the 2018 range of SmartThings sensors:-
- The SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor (S$38) receives alerts when doors, windows, or drawers open unexpectedly. Thanks to the built-in accelerometer, the sensor can also monitor vibrations to detect knocks on doors or when the laundry cycle is completed. In addition, the Multipurpose Sensor monitors temperatures and can trigger the air-conditioner to adjust automatically.
- The SmartThings Motion Sensor (S$38) can be used as a trigger to switch on and off connected devices as soon as it detects any motion. This year's version now offers a magnetic ball mount, allowing users to easily change the angle when needed.
- Consumers no longer have to worry about a water leakage at home with the SmartThings Water Leak Sensor (S$38), which will alert consumers at the first sign of excess water or unexpected change in temperature and trigger a light or siren if water is detected where it does not belong. This year's edition offers two sensor points (top and bottom), compared to last year’s edition which offers the bottom sensor point only.
- The SmartThings Button (S$28) is exactly what it sounds like and it's a brand new addition to the family. With just a touch of a button, consumers can control lights, speakers, appliances, and other connected devices in their homes. Like the Multipurpose sensor, the Button can also be set up to monitor temperatures and trigger the air-conditioner to adjust automatically.
The new range of SmartThings Sensors will be available from 27th October 2018, at Samsung Experience Stores, Singtel, selected consumer electronic stores and selected online marketplaces.
