Is this the future of home security cameras?

1-Ring announces the launch of Moon, their all-in-one smart home hub with levitating 360 camera.

Tech start-up 1-Ring Inc has just started a second crowdfunding campaign for Moon, a smart home system that combines 360o capture technology with stabilized levitation technology.  The setup essentially combines a 360o camera with a base that uses magnetic levitation to raise and move it.

As you can see from the video below, you can control the camera via an app on your smartphone. The camera moves noiselessly, and it uses a 5MP CMOS sensor and f/2.0 130o wide-angle lens to capture stills and video in up to Full HD 1080p resolution (at 30 fps).

Three microphones allow the camera smart voice recognition capabilities, so it can for example, automatically pan towards the direction of your crying child. Because it comes with a HQ speaker, you can even use it for video conferencing, letting you remotely participate in meetings.

It uses Dual Band 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4GHz/5GHz WiFi for better connectivity, and comes with a programmable IR Blaster while being compatible with ZigBee, Z-Wave and Bluetooth Smart. This means you can use it with other smart home devices and standards like Philips Hue Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Homekit.

IR LEDs are used to provide Night Vision capabilities, and the camera will contain temperature sensors, humidity sensors, light sensors, and even a CO2 sensor so you can use it as a security camera, and to keep track of the environmental conditions in your home.

The camera contains a 3000mAh internal battery for up to 5 hours autonomous function, but also charges while levitating as it has wireless inductive charging capabilities. In terms of storage, the camera has a microSD card slot which takes up to 128GB cards, and you have the option of storing footage to your choice of Cloud storage too.

Pledges for the Moon start from US$224 (excluding shipping) for the Standard pack, which includes one camera and one base, while you can get two Standard packs for US$415 (excluding shipping).
