The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has released Bluetooth 6.1 as part of the new bi-annual release schedule.

New in Bluetooth 6.1 is Randomised Resolvable Private Address (RPA), which is designed to improve privacy and power efficiency in Bluetooth devices.

Bluetooth 6.1 makes it harder for third parties to track or correlate device activity by randomising the timing of device address changes. Furthermore, it also offloads the address change operation to the Controller device, which should help extend battery life.

The latest Bluetooth version comes 8 months after the release of Bluetooth 6.0, which came with "true distance awareness" to boost the precision of finding apps.

The Bluetooth SIG recently implemented a bi-annual release schedule for more frequent and consistent delivery of completed features, to accelerate innovation, and promote continuous improvement. It also provides developers and manufacturers quicker access to the latest Bluetooth advancements.
