ASUS to Release USB-AC53 802.11ac Wireless Adapter in Q1 of 2013
Networking enthusiasts here can expect the ASUS USB-AC53 wireless adapter to arrive on our shores in the months ahead. The USB-AC53 is based on the existing draft 802.11ac wireless standard.
Following the arrival of the RT-AC66U, ASUS went on to unveil two wireless clients for the draft 802.11ac standard - the PCE-AC66 and USB-AC53. The PCE-AC66 is essentially a PCI Express card designed for desktop computers, while the latter is a wireless USB adapter primed for laptops. However, these releases were limited mainly to a States launch back in June.
More recently, we've received confirmation from the horse's mouth that the Taiwanese CE firm is ready to present the USB-AC53 to the masses. Although ASUS was unable to give us a fixed date for its release, networking buffs here can expect the adapter to arrive sometime in Q1 next year. Specs wise, the device will arrive in a 2 by 2 MIMO 802.11ac configuration, with theoretical top speeds of 867Mbps and 300Mbps on the 5GHz AC band and 2.4GHz band respectively.
Bundled items will include an extended USB cable and NetClip attachment as depicted in the photo above. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything about the PCE-AC66.
