Xiaomi updates its laptop range by introducing a brand new Mi Notebook Pro. The laptop was unveiled at Xiaomi's Beijing conference, along with the Mi MIX 2 smartphone.
According to Xiaomi, the Mi Notebook Pro boasts an Intel 8th-generation Core i7 processor clocked at 4.0GHz. It offers up to a 40% increase in processing performance over its previous chipset because of the architectural enhancements Intel has made to their 8th-gen Intel Core mobile processor lineup. Mi Notebook Pro also comes with a dedicated graphics processor (NVIDIA GeForce MX150), and dual channel DDR4 RAM rated at 2,400MHz. Users can expect 256GB solid state storage with expandable storage option, too.
Xiaomi also pointed out that their laptop will come with a 3-in-1 SD card slot, so that should be handy for photographers. It also has two USB Type-C connectors, two USB-A (regular) ports, and a full-sized HDMI port. As seen here, the Chinese brand intends to take the fight to Apple.
The Mi Notebook Pro also has a proprietary cooling system: a symmetrical dual fan design, with double inbound/outbound air flow that evenly distributes the heat across the laptop. The notebook's aluminum frame/build should also help further in heat dissipation.
The laptop's 15.6-inch display is specced at Full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution flanked by thin 6.52mm bezels on the side. For a measure of toughness, the panel uses Corning Gorilla Glass 3 rated at 7H hardness. Its fingerprint unlocking tech can be found on the touchpad.
The backlit keyboard is 19% larger than the current MacBook Pro's keyboard, and each key has a 0.3mm 'curved design' for tactile, ergonomic typing. The keys also have a travel distance of 1.5mm (in comparison, the MacBook Pro has 0.6mm travel distance). Xiaomi said that this difference gives the Mi NoteBook Pro's keyboard a feel similar to typing on a mechanical keyboard, but we'll be the judge of that after giving it a try.
The Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro (Core i7, 16GB RAM) will retail at CNY6,999 (~S$1,445.27). Unfortunately, its availability is limited to China, just like the predecessors.
