Toshiba officially exits the laptop business

Toshiba sold its remaining 19.9% of shares in Dynabook Inc to Sharp.

Toshiba ended its 35-year run in the laptop industry last week. 

In a news release on 4 Aug, Toshiba announced that it sold the remaining 19.9% of shares in Dynabook Inc to Sharp. Dynabook is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Sharp. The latest development came two years after Toshiba sold 80.1% of shares to Sharp in June 2018.

Toshiba made its first notebook in 1985, the T1100 which had internal rechargeable batteries, a 3.5-inch floppy drive, and 256K memory. The company was ranked among the top PC makers in the 1990s and early 2000s.
