As we all know, the MacBook features a single, next-generation USB Type C port that supports higher-wattage charging, USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5Gbps) data transfer and DisplayPort 1.2. Until now, the only way to overcome this USB port limitation is to purchase an Apple USB-C to USB Adapter (S$28), and then connect a USB hub to the adapter. This is obviously a cumbersome workaround.

But with the InfiniteUSB-C adapter, users will be able to daisy-chain the adapter in order to connect more devices. The InfiniteUSB-C is compatible with iOS, Android and devices with USB ports. According to information extracted from its Kickstarter campaign page, the device has been tested up to a daisy-chain of five links. This means a single USB Type C port can support up to five InfiniteUSB-C adapters.

This is a definite improvement over the earlier workaround. This project has already met its US$10,000 goal by over 18 times, with 5 more days to go. The InfiniteUSB adapter is the brainchild of a mainland Chinese design student and it has been campaigning for funds for over a month. According to Digital Trends, the campaign renewed attention with its announcement of USB-C compatible adapters. Do head over to its Kickstarter page if you are interested in funding this project. You will have to pledge US$18 and more in order to get your hands on the InfiniteUSB-C adapter, and it is expected to ship by June this year.
