MSI’s GT75VR Titan Pro is a beastly gaming laptop that can handle anything you throw at it, but it’s now gotten an update for faster Wi-Fi speeds. This amounts to a small refresh, but it’s significant because it is the first gaming laptop to get the new Killer Wireless-AC 1550 chip, which boasts transfer rates of up to 1.73Gbps.
In comparison, the previous Killer Wireless AC 1535 was capped at 867Mbps, so the throughput has effectively been doubled.
The Killer Wireless-AC 1550 is also interesting because it’s the result of a collaboration between Intel and Rivet Networks, combining Intel manufacturing prowess with the additional features of Killer.
One of the main criticisms facing Killer network controllers is that they simply aren’t Intel, so the new chip tackles that head-on. It’s essentially an Intel AC9260, which has been out for several months now, with Killer’s usual network prioritization software, DoubleShot Pro capability, and stream detection algorithms.
The 2x2 Wi-Fi module comes with MU-MIMO and full 802.11ac Wave 2 functionality as well, and you’ll get support for Bluetooth 5.0.
In a sense, it’s only fitting that the GT75VR Titan Pro is equipped the new Wi-Fi chip, as it already comes with a formidable Aquantia 10 GbE wired LAN port. However, it isn’t the only laptop to see faster Wi-Fi speeds, and Dell’s Alienware laptops are also getting the upgrade.

At CES 2018, MSI also announced its new GE63 and GE73 Raider RGB laptops, which boast 12 zones of RGB lighting and 24 million colors. LED lights peek out from nearly every conceivable area on the laptop, and even the USB ports are illuminated.
The lights are controlled by SteelSeries’ GameSense software, so they can be programmed to respond to in-game events, such as when your health reaches critical levels in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Alternatively, you can control the lighting using MSI’s Dragon Center app. In addition, MSI says it’s launched a new version of Gaming Mode, which offers more interactive backlighting and performance optimizations for games like PUBG, Dota 2, and League of Legends.
