Global notebook shipments could drop significantly this quarter due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
DigiTimes Research claims that shipments are estimated to fall 29 to 36% in Q1 2020 due to severe labour, component shortages and stagnant logistics arising from the Covid-19 outbreak. With over 90% of global notebook production said to be taking place in China, the supply chain disruptions are likely to cause inventories of components to run out by end of February.
Quanta Computer has already started volume production at a new assembly plant in Taiwan, but many supporting suppliers still cannot reopen their factories as the local governments have not given them the approvals.
