ASUS’ Republic of Gamers brand has released a short teaser video titled “Something Has Awakened”, featuring an ROG laptop in the middle of Ryzen’s signature orange logo. Further details are practically non-existent, but it does look like the first Ryzen gaming laptop is coming soon.
Just last week, AMD formally announced Ryzen Mobile (previously codenamed “Raven Ridge”), a new set of APUs for laptops that will debut in the second half of the year. These APUs would also feature an integrated Vega graphics core, but it’s not clear if the ROG laptop will rely on dedicated graphics or the onboard Vega GPU.
The video is captioned with the hashtags #JointheRepublic and #Computex2017, so we’ll definitely be hearing more about it in Taipei next week.
But given ROG’s traditional association with high-performance, we’d expect the notebook to come with fairly powerful specifications. At AMD’s Financial Analyst Day last week, the company estimated that consumer Ryzen Mobile chips will offer up to 50 per cent more CPU performance and 40 per cent more graphics power than before.
