Accessibility features on devices are something that a lot us take for granted. After all, most of us are only aware of the Accessibility menu on our iPhones because we wanted to enable AssistiveTouch.
But on a more serious note, such accessibility features are necessary because it allows everyone, regardless of their physical capacity, the ability to make use of technology to communicate, to entertain, to create, and more.
To highlight Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Apple has just released a series of video that shows how its Accessibility features such as VoiceOver, Dictation, Switch Control, Siri, can help make a difference in the lives of those affected by disability.
There are seven videos in total, and one of my favorite shows Carlos Vasquez, the lead singer, drummer, and PR manager of heavy metal band Distartica, using his iPhone with VoiceOver and Screen Curtain. Carlos lost his glaucoma when he was a child in Guatemala.
Another example of Apple's accessibility features in action is the video showing Ian Mackay exploring the woods in his power chair and using Siri on his iPhone to start a FaceTime call. He also demonstrates how Switch Control on his iPhone lets him take photos. Ian became paralyzed in 2008 after being involved in a biking accident.
