If you are still using an Intel Mac, you might want to be seated for this news.

Apple announced the end of macOS support for Intel Macs during the Platforms State of the Union developers' update at WWDC 2025. macOS 26 (also known as macOS Tahoe) is the final release for Intel Macs.

While Apple said it will continue to support Intel Macs with security updates for another three years, users should not expect firmware or feature updates beyond macOS 26.

macOS 26 is currently supported on selected Intel Macs, including the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019), the 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020), the 27-inch iMac (2020), and Mac Pro (2019).

Additionally, since macOS 26 is the end of the line for Intel Macs, the minimum hardware specifications to support new, major versions of macOS would likely be based on Apple Silicon processors.
